Pangea Giving Announces 2015 Grant Awards

For over a decade, Pangea Giving has supported rural, grassroots organizations throughout the world to successfully address critical issues in their communities. This year is no exception. We are pleased to announce our 2015 grant awards totaling $123,800 to partners in East Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Our grants support innovative approaches to addressing issues ranging from gender-based violence and women’s rights to teaching sustainable agricultural methods that protect the environment.

Highlights of this year’s awards include:

  • Funding in Burundi – For the first time in Pangea’s history we have developed partnerships in this small, impoverished East African country. We are excited to support our new partners SaCoDE and United for Children Burundi Bw’Uno Musi (UCBUM) in their work toward economic development and empowerment of women and girls.
  • Strengthen Partnerships in Myanmar – 2015 marks the second year of funding partners in Myanmar – Meikswe, Youth Initiative Human Rights (YIHR) and Chin Women’s Empowerment Group work to support education, youth leadership, and women’s economic development.
  • Focusing on Women’s Rights and Empowerment – While support for children’s rights and education continues as a primary area of interest for Pangea Giving, this year a major emphasis of our grants is to strengthen women’s rights. For example, a grant to Generando in Guatemala will be used to provide comprehensive services for victims of sexual violence, including political activism, training and empowerment of women and men of the community.

Pangea Giving Announces 2015 GrantsAs in previous years, the 2015 grant awards reflect the philosophy and approach embraced by Pangea Giving: respect for our partners, appreciation and understanding of cultural diversity, and being open to new ideas and solutions to addressing root causes of poverty and inequality.
