Pangea Reference Library
One of our members collects links to interesting articles about global
development issues, and publishes them to the membership on a quarterly
basis. We have collected them into this reference library. Below are links
to a few current articles on this year’s focus topic—women—as well as links
to our archives from previous years’ articles that are still pertinent.
Focus on Gender
Pangea's educational focus for 2010 is gender issues in the developing
world. Below are links to a few articles on this broad topic, one from
an excellent organization/web site dedicated to this topic Association
for Women's Rights in Development, and the other a general clearinghouse
for serious documents on development issues (www.eldis.org.)
- A series of regional briefs can be found on the AWID site on the intersecting
crises of the global economic recession, climate change, and the deepening
food and energy crisis, and their effects on women. Find the briefs here
- "Digital Bangladesh and Gender Equality" discusses how interactive
computer technology centers could be used as a powerful tool to create
gender sensitive opportunities in business, education, citizenship and
government. More
- "Changing Their World: Concepts and Practices of Women's Movements".
Building feminist movements is a process that mobilizes women (and their
allies or supporters) for struggles whose goals are specific to gender
equality outcomes. This 70-page document provides 10 case studies from
around the world, then draws conclusions and makes recommendations. Read
the report.
