Sisonke Msimang
Born to South African parents in Zambia in 1974, Sisonke Msimang spent her childhood and adolescence in Zambia, Kenya, Canada, and South Africa. Since receiving her BA from Macalester College in 1996, she has lived in Southern Africa and worked on the impact of HIV/AIDS on young people and the gender dynamics of the pandemic. Co-founder and regional coordinator of the Youth Against AIDS Network, she has also worked for the United Nations in a number of roles and is currently responsible for HIV/AIDS program activities across nine countries for the Open Society Initiative. She lives near Johannesburg.
