Pangea Giving Awards $128k in Grants
Through the generous support of our Members and Circle of Friends, Pangea has awarded $128,500 to our community partners in SE Asia, East Africa and Latin America. Grants range from $4,000 to $10,000. Responding to locally-identified needs, our grants support organizations that are addressing critical needs in their communities such as girls’ access to education, agricultural degradation and herbicide awareness, family planning and reproductive health education.
Highlights of this year’s awards:
A total of 18 partners – including 15 project grants and 3 general operating grants
- New partner in Guatemala – AC Esperanza, a secondary school servicing Chimaltenango youth ages 12-17. Workshops with students, parents and community leaders focus on crime and violence prevention, handling conflict and gang avoidance.
- Continued partnerships in Burundi – Despite recent political unrest and violence, our 2 partners in Burundi – SaCoDE and United for Children Burundi Bw’Uno Musi (UCBUM) continue their work toward economic development and empowerment of women and girls with support we began providing in 2015.
Pangea Giving’s unique grant-making model provides Pangea members the opportunity to be directly involved in grant decisions through our regional pods. Listening carefully to our global partners, this year’s funding is directed to supporting their work in 5 key areas: women’s rights, agriculture, children’s education, human rights, and community development.
Our goal is to establish trusting, transparent and supportive relationships with our community partners. This includes financial support that frequently continues for 5 years or more. Developing long-term partnerships supports our value of respect – listening and walking with our partners toward equality and social justice.
